To all a Merry Christmas and a Merry Christmas to everyone of yáll

As 2013 draws to a close it’s been a somewhat interesting year. I still have to drink that horrible stuff water yep between 2 and 3 litres of the stuff!!! and maybe ok a couple of Jack Daniels and Bundy’s as well (nobody’s perfect right?)

Tho this Christmas just seems I don’t know just different and yet I don’t know why.   christmas_bells I’ve lost a few friends including a mate Vince and his wife Blanche within a week of each other plus others.

Have you ever had one of those starts to the holiday season???  You know well this was how mine started…  can’t wait I get to see Mum and I get to see my daughter BJ and get to catch up with some dear friends.

few days to go before xmas the boat started to sink on its mooring as the batteries had died a little whiles ago and the bilge pumps stopped working – great.   2 new batteries later and the bilge pumps died hmmmm, then my car decided to die (your kidding me) but a mate lent me his ute.   I couldn’t use my GPS as his cigarette lighter didn’t work so a plus for me I remembered how to get around without one – ripper!

All in all tho Christmas despite the setbacks turned out pretty good.   I got to goto and still am at mums, I got to see my precious daughter BJ, I got to see a mate of mine Glenn and his wife Vicki who I hadn’t seen for a couple of years and I got to see Marj and Gary and play the guitar and sing till way after midnight so all in all as I said so far its turned out pretty good.

stopping for the night on the way home

I have found that travelling and being in other states means I sometimes don’t get to see friends all that often and sometimes a year or more slips by which is not good.

My New Years resolution:  Catch up with people I have forgotten to ring or see and try to be not so forgetful (will try honest) and yes I know what they say about New Years resolutions but I will try this year.

And so from me and mine to you and yours from somewhere in Australia…

Merry Christmas to one and all and a Happy New Year and may 2014 be fantastic!

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks…

not smoking cooking

Well they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but I’ve just completed a “Cooking for 1 or 2” course which is run over a period of 5 weeks…

I’ve learnt all sorts of things like… how to work out if I should have red or white wine with a meal or both…

This course is run by the Department of Vet Affairs with the assistance of the Local Returned and Services League (RSL) Australia in conjunction with the Newcastle University. You get to learn about (ok forget the wine) nutrition, basic health issues, different types of foods and what amounts to eat, cross contamination plus more. Furthermore, you can learn the advantages and disadvantages of using bullet blenders in cooking if you visit buyblenders.com.au. Actually I found the course to be very enjoyable even though I was volunteered for the course (feels like I am still in the Army).

Three ladies from the University of Newcastle that were undertaking a degree were our instructors for the five weeks.   They were great and fitted in with our mad group of ex Military personell.

Some pictures of the food…. and seriously we did cook it and didn’t get sick afterwards either.   Sadly though I think I have become a tad domesticated 🙁 which I suppose could be a good thing but I am not so sure…

Week 5 lunch is served

week 4 this is how you measure the oil

this goes with that sitting outside for lunch
